SYNOPSIS: Part sociological experiment and part adventure comedy, Vegucated follows three meat- and cheese-loving New Yorkers who agree to adopt a vegan diet for six weeks. Lured by tales of weight lost and health regained, they begin to uncover the hidden sides of animal agriculture that make them wonder whether solutions offered in films like Food, Inc. go far enough. This entertaining documentary showcases the rapid and at times comedic evolution of three people who discover they can change the world one bite at a time.
Sometimes you need a little support in your vegan journey and that support sometimes comes in a film like “Vegucated.” It especially hit home for me as it was set right in my backyard, the big concrete jungle of New York City.
You follow three carnivores onto their journey. The film does have some graphic scenes of factory farming but those images remind me why I’m vegan. Those scenes do not last long but enough to turn your stomach a bit.
A great part was watching them go grocery shopping and understanding ingredient labels. Also, each of the three New Yorkers come from different lifestyles and backgrounds, which make it more relate-able to the viewer.
Don’t you think it’s time to get Vegucated?
